March AGM and Sew Day recap

It was a busy month! First we found out that we have BONUS hours when our meetings are at Hawkwood - we have the room from 4pm even though the meeting doesn't start until 7pm. So some of us took advantage of the space to tape down a quilt to baste, use the high counters for cutting, sit in a comfy chair with a beautiful view in the sunshine to hand-stitch, or just hang out and sew-cialize with our guild buddies and some tunes. We'll poll again in May to see if people want Bonus Sew-cialization time at Hawkwood.

The AGM had a review of last year from the President and a financial review from the Treasurer. The current Secretary and Social Media coordinator stepped down. We voted in Laura Hocevar as the new Social Media coordinator.  We changed the Challenges coordinator to be called the "Creative Director" and recruited two new assistants Gail Horovath and Jane Dunstan, voted Susan Madu in a new position of Programming Coordinator, Jera Mackenzie filled the Volunteer and Events Coordinator position that was vacant last year, and the Secretary position is still vacant.

We also had a presentation from Karin King with assists from Jera Mackenzie and Linda Schmidt on their experiences at QuiltCon 2019 in Nashville. In the end they said it was "well worth it".

Gail Horovath and Haley Gorman shared the winnings of the block lotto (combo unit) and we announced a new block lotto (sawtooth star).

We collected the Ultraviolet Winter Challenge and Haley Gorman won so her quilt will be headed to the CQA.

We had loads of Show and Tell this month!

We also had almost a dozen people show up to our UFO Sew Day on Saturday!

Finally, Philippa is collecting heart blocks to send back home to Christchurch. You can find more information about the blocks here and here.
