Highlights of our April Meeting and Sew Day

We were lucky enough to be able to reschedule Natalie Gerber from the March Meeting (which was cancelled due to extreme weather) to the April Meeting.  She brought her sketch books and papers where she starts her design process by hand with ink or paint.  She also brought samples of her screen printed fabric and showed us the link between her designs and the final product.

Make sure you go see her at cSPACE King Edward.

Over the last few months we've been working on our Upcycle Challenge and the variety of items that were presented was amazing. We started with everything from curtains and shirts to neon safety vest and hot pink metallic booty shorts. We ended up with everything from mini quilts, bags and pouches to an apron and a stuffed rhino. The big winner was a beautifully pieced fox pillow from an upcycled shirt.

After our March meeting was cancelled we had SO much Show and Tell! One thing that I love about this guild is that everyone gets a chance to show anything at any meeting. Some larger guilds only have a limited amount of time for a lot of members so they do Show and Tell signups or draws or scheduled rotations, and there may be restrictions on the types of projects you can show.  We have the time to love on everyone equally.

The April Sew Day was incredibly busy, we were assembling, quilting, and binding away for most of the weekend.  We fed our slaves volunteers and kept them pretty happy.

We managed to finish an amazing number of quilts but there are still quilts that want to be quilted and bound that the Charity Coordinator Linda will be bringing to the next meeting. Great job everyone! Those quilts will go to women and children who move into the Sonshine Center and many times own precious little besides this quilt.
